JMA is based in Sonoma County, California, and focuses on detailed custom built residences including one current residential project in the Napa County consisting of five structures and over 30,000 square feet of building structures. Holehouse's president, John Holehouse, and Jim Murphy are two of the founding members of the National Custom Builder's Council.

Appliance Upkeep

Holehouse Construction Home MaintenanceMaintaining appliances heavily used during the colder months is one way homeowners can ensure winter home safety.

According to the San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDGE), homeowners should have gas appliances examined every year by a licensed contractor. Not doing so could lead to carbon monoxide exposure, a dangerous condition that can prove fatal.

Homeowners should also perform their own maintenance of gas appliances. For example, filters should be inspected and replaced based on the manufacturer's recommendations.

"Never store anything near a gas appliance that might interfere with normal appliance airflow," SDGE said.

While some appliances are designed to heat a home, doing so with others could lead to a dangerous situation. Stoves, ovens or barbecues should never be used as a source of heat, as they can lead to carbon monoxide exposure.

Using these appliances can also present a fire hazard, especially if they are left unattended. Even products like space heaters - which are designed to warm a home - should be watched and kept away from ignition sources.

Truth about Lead Based Paint

Truth about Lead Based PaintLead is a highly toxic metal that may cause a range of health problems, especially in young children. When lead is absorbed into the body, it can cause damage to the brain and other vital organs, like the kidneys, nerves and blood.

Lead may also cause behavioral problems, learning disabilities, seizures and in extreme cases, death. Some symptoms of lead poisoning may include headaches, stomachaches, nausea, tiredness and irritability. Children who are lead poisoned may show no symptoms.

Both inside and outside the home, deteriorated lead-paint mixes with household dust and soil and becomes tracked in. Children may become lead poisoned by:

• Putting their hands or other lead-contaminated objects into their mouths,
• Eating paint chips found in homes with peeling or flaking lead-based paint, or
• Playing in lead-contaminated soil
